Members of UFCW Eastern Provinces Council Local 1288P working at the Best Western in Moncton, New Brunswick have successfully ratified a new three-year collective agreement, bringing meaningful improvements to wages, benefits, and workplace stability.
Under the new agreement, members will receive wage increases ranging from four to five per cent depending on job classification. The contract also includes an important protection ensuring that as minimum wage increases, members’ wages will rise by the same amount, helping maintain fair pay moving forward.
The agreement also delivers improvements to time off and benefits. Bereavement leave has increased to five days, giving workers more time to support their families during difficult moments. Vacation benefits have also been improved, with full-time employees receiving increased vacation time and part-time employees seeing an increase in vacation pay. In addition, members will now enjoy two new paid holidays as part of the contract.
Members will also benefit from a new provision ensuring that any unused personal or vacation days will be paid out annually on Dec. 1, guaranteeing workers receive the value of the time they’ve earned.
The contract strengthens workplace stability as well. The company has agreed to maintain a minimum of 11 full-time employees, helping preserve stable, full-time jobs at the hotel. To support the busy periods that come with tourism and major sporting events, the employer has also committed to increasing staffing levels during peak seasons such as the summer months and hockey season.
This new agreement reflects the strength of workers coming together to negotiate improvements that benefit members today and help protect them in the future.
